The Speech Of Earth

Heartfield in the Moor

“All things have the capacity for speech influencing and informing our breathing bodies. Not just animals and plants, but tumbling waterfalls and dry riverbeds, gusts of wind, compost piles and cumulus clouds, freshly painted houses (as well as houses abandoned), rusting automobiles, feathers, granite cliffs and grains of sand, dormant volcanoes and shed antlers are all expressive, sometimes eloquent and hence participant in the mystery of language. Our own chatter erupts in response to the abundant articulations of the world: human speech is simply our part of a much broader conversation.”
David Abram.

This retreat creates a heartfield for our unfolding time together as we listen to the land and the wisdom of our bodies. The Procession of the Heart, an ancient self-healing practice originating from the high Mongolian and Tibetan plains, becomes a doorway into our deeper listening and knowing. Beneath vast, rolling skies The Procession of the Heart was passed on from horse-backed travelling Shaman, to the remote communities they encountered, as a way for the people to help each other, and to keep the people united.

Through the cycle of the weekend, the presence of the Moor and our practices ground and unfold us into our natural internal rhythm - rather than society’s rhythm or the rapid beat of our conditioning. As mycelium weave a forest, we enter the collective heartfield and explore the ever-unfolding conversation between our human bodies, the mystery and our vaster body, Moor, this animate earth. Mingling breath and movement with the clouds, granite, hawthorns, horses and some ancient, once remembered presence calling us home.

Our movements, our multi-layered presence, happens as part of the unfolding pattern of aliveness of the landscapes and cityscapes we inhabit and move among. Through creating simple earth-based ceremony, letting the imagination shepherd, meditation in stillness and movement, sharing silence, reflections and insights, we awaken the ecological body. On the Moor and inside the meditation hall we sensitively meet the layers and shaping of our human beingness. Turning inwards we meet the song of ourself and outwards, rooting back into the broader conversation of the mystery, and our vaster body of sky-stream-hoof-stone-wind-bark-feather-soil-bone, the beating heart of Earth.

The Speech of Earth gathering is for you if:-

Your heart and spirit are calling you to listen more deeply.

You feel a longing to heal your sense of separation, find your way home and know your belonging.

You are moving through transitions and thresholds in your life.

You have an interest in Earth-based spiritualities, meditation and movement.

You have a therapeutic or healing practice and are called to explore an embodied, relational approach in collaboration with the natural rhythms and cycles and the wider than human world.

You are curious about how you can be in service to regenerative thriving life

and the unfolding new dream of humanity.

Your soul is trying to show you how the health and wellbeing of the web of life and all her creatures is interwoven with the state of human consciousness and our actions.

During this weekend we reflect on how a conscious, embodied participation in the shape-shifting dialogue of the Speech of Earth may be a portal to; something once known, a new insight, a moment of myth, the song of your heart, a deeper release, healing our sense of separation. We explore how what has been shown to us, what we have tasted, can become lived in daily life and work, and become a way of being in service to a world in balance and wholeness and regenerative thriving life.

The practices and explorations during the Speech of Earth gatherings happen both outside in collaboration with the Moor and inside the training room.

To attend this gathering you need to be able to stay for the whole weekend, walk on uneven, wet, slippy earth and participate in practices on the Moor in a range of unpredictable weather conditions.

Permission has been given to share the Procession of the Heart self-healing practice.

Below are some reflections from people who have previously participated in The Speech of Earth;

I felt able to explore my relationship to the Speech of Earth in a unique and personal way. I left with a deeper and more sacred connection to Earth and cherish the rituals shown to me to preserve this kinship.

This gathering was an opportunity to reconnect with a visceral sense of contacting my wild creaturely instinctual self as a ‘part of’, rather than an ‘observer of’ the more than human environment.

I was shown my elemental, sensing self more clearly and re-experienced what happens when I am in contact with this – a reconnecting to ancestral wisdom, to source.

The most useful part was hearing everyone’s practise, and how they would implement parts of the course into their work. Also being silent on the moor and the guidance beforehand, then bringing all this together.

I loved the group experience, the groundedness I felt whilst there, the connection to self, others and other than human. It was strange for me to enjoy being in a group so much. Amongst many other things, it reset my expectations around group learning and how I can be a part of it.

Grief was a theme, it ebbed and flowed over the weekend. When feeling this, I felt a message to tune into love when I sat quietly by a tree. This made sense and shifted something within me. The grief became less scary and more entwined with beauty and curiosity.

I really feel now how the capacity to love and receive love is everything - witnessing and honouring our shared body that is the Earth.

My experience was deeply transformative. Since the Speech of Earth I am living in a more purposeful, grounded way which is enabling me to open up intuitively and spiritually.

I am working with how earth witnesses me in everything, it is not a one-way process.

What was most helpful was the way that all the practices seemed to flow into each another. The embodied movement, our animal bodies moving and then taking our bodies to explore the moor. The reminders to acknowledge thresholds and observe the changes as we moved from one place to another. The moor; water, gorse, grass, trees, reminding me that my presence was involved with and affected by everything around me.

A really rich weekend of connection and experimentation.

This retreat is offered by Ally Stott artist; maker of dance, Earth-based ceremonies, drawings and rituals. Many moons ago on Dartmoor whilst training as a Psychotherapist she experienced herself being listened to by the Moor and realised everything she was in relationship with was alive with its own voice and soulful intelligence, aware of our presence and communicating. This moment has creatively shaped the direction of her work and life over the last 18 years. Ally is also a Craniosacral Therapist, gardener and runs Earth-wise retreats & workshops across the country and a year-long, soul inspired course for women called Woven www.allystott.co.uk
