Dreams of Awakening: Lucid Dreaming Retreat
(Foundation Level CPD)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this immersive lucid dreaming training offered for Psychotherapists, Counsellors, Health Care Professionals, long-term Meditators and Meditation Teachers we’ll explore how to transform the third of our lives that we spend in bed by learning how to dream lucidly and sleep consciously.
The retreat will be led by Charlie Morley, who has been teaching lucid dreaming for the past 17 years and will include everything you need to learn how to lucid dream yourself while forming the foundation course for possible future training in how to offer lucid dreaming to clients.
We’ll combine a 12-hour daily schedule with optional night-time practices to create the best possible conditions for having lucid dreams.
Charlie’s teaching style is highly practical: using music, movement and interactive exercises to help deepen the learning experience.
The retreat will explore:
• How to lucid dream
• The therapeutic benefits of lucid dreaming.
• Tibetan Buddhist dream yoga
• Lucid dreaming for PTSD treatment
• Breathwork exercises and yoga Nidra
The retreat includes teachings on the history, science and practice of lucid dreaming from both the Western and Tibetan Buddhist traditions, instructions on how to maintain awareness into sleep, recognition of the dreamlike nature of reality and of course plenty of practical teachings on learning how to lucid dream.
Charlie will be joined by Karuna-trained Core Process Psychotherapist James Scurry, who has worked with Charlie for over 8 years as the in-house psychotherapist at his courses with military veterans and those working with trauma-affected sleep.
Both James and Charlie were part of the breakthrough scientific study (results published in Traumatology) that used lucid dreaming practices to reduce PTSD symptoms to below the PTSD threshold in over 85% of participants.
Retreat Highlights include:
• Optional night-time practice sessions
• Lucidity psychodrama exercises
• Optional daily naps
• Periods of silence and reflection
• Morning dream sharing circles
This retreat takes a uniquely holistic approach to lucid dreaming best suited to those interested in psychological integration and spiritual growth. The end goal is to become- in the words of Charlie’s teacher Lama Yeshe Rinpoche “more awake, more aware, more kind.”
This 4 night training adds up to 40 hours of Continuing Professional Development.
Notes:
You might be thinking: How do the optional night-time practices work exactly? Participants can choose to spend part of the second half of the night sleeping in the workshop space where Charlie will guide them into several sessions of lucid dream practice.
The nighttime wake-ups are totally optional, though, and usually only about half the group choose to do them.
If you do intend to do the night-time sessions please bring:
• A camping mattress/roll matt
• A sleeping bag/blanket.
• An extra pillow (if you need one)
• Enthusiasm and a sense of humour!
More information on dates and how to apply below.
Below is a TED Talk video of Charlie discussing trauma affected sleep, which is most relevant from a clinical perspective and which includes lucid dreaming as part of a wider range of practices designed to regulate the nervous system and assist with sleep and post-traumatic stress.
